How to take invest for the current and future boom
Canada is growing strongly and its China’s fault. To be precise the emergence of a large urban middle class in China and India is *the* economic trend of our times. This wave is creating ripples and pockets of wealth around the world that benefit from this emergence and we prefer to focus on these winning areas. Canada’s huge natural resources, like Australia and Brazil are some of the biggest winners. In Canada it is the oil and gas resources of Alberta that stand out.
It might seem strange to call Canada and Alberta in particular the new oil and gas titan of the world. At the end of 2010 Canada’s oil reserves were 11th largest in the world. Good but hardly world beating. But when are oil reserves not counted as oil reserves? When they aren’t economic to produce at current prices, that’s when. But that changes when prices rise and technology improves.
The Athabasca oil sands have estimated unconventional oil reserves approximately equal to the conventional oil reserves of the rest of the world, estimated to be 1.6 trillion barrels (254 km3). Unconventional oil reserves means, reserves that at current prices and with current technology, they aren’t economic to produce.
